At 250km from Shanghai, Nanjing is the capital of the Jiangsu Province; this province is 102,600  km² wide and its population is about 76 millions inhabitants. Nanjing is known as the old capital of China, its story is intertwined with the story of China: so many tourists sites in the city are spurs of this history.

The modernisation of the city is going on, latest steps of this development are the construction of the second line of subway and the growing number of residential districts, and for shopping and leisure, Nanjing has a lively city centre: Xinjiekou.
